Exploring Leadership

My Exploring Leadership class was an 8 week seminar held on Wednesday mornings from 9:30-11:30! Here is a little recap of what we learned about each week!

Week 1: Introduction
We had an overview of our course and what we would be learning, and learned about our fabulous instructor. He has been with the company for many years in some wonderful roles, and even did the College Program himself. We also did a group activity related to the responsibilities of our managers.

Week 2: Disney's Chain of Excellence
We discovered the Chain of Excellence, and how to satisfy both guest and Cast Member needs.

Week 3: Strengthening Teams
We discussed the 5 approaches to conflict, and how to effectively utilize conflict resolution skills. We also talked about how Disney incorporates recognition for the Cast Members.

Week 4: Diversity and Inclusion
We talked about the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace, and especially at Disney. We did a group activity to discover more about the diversity within our class.

Week 5: Storytelling [Magic Kingdom field experience]
We explored the power of Disney storytelling in no better place than the Magic Kingdom! We started with a guided tour from the entrance, in Town Square, and through Main Street. Then we were split into groups to explore the details and storyline in Liberty Square.

Week 6: Leadership Competencies
We had a day full of games and group challenges as we learned about the different leadership competencies that our company relies on.

Week 7: Leadership Examples [Animal Kingdom field experience]
We met at Animal Kingdom to explore the park and discover real-life examples of the leadership concepts that we had talked about throughout the seminars.

Week 8: Closing Session
We de-briefed on the entirety of the experience and lessons from the course, and wrapped up our seminars by earning our Mouseters Degree!
My Mouseters Degree and Perfect Attendance Award
Overall, I loved this class and really learned a lot about how to be a successful leader, what makes Disney so successful in the industry, and gained a better appreciation for so many aspects of the company.
