Professional Internship Application Process

I am incredibly excited about starting my Professional Internship in less than two months, and I thought I would do a general post about my application experience for anyone who is interested or curious! I will start by saying that this process takes a lot longer than the DCP process, and it is much more competitive.

When I was on my College Program, I went to a Professional Internships Application Panel. This was incredibly helpful as the PI recruiters went through each step of the process and gave so many invaluable tips. I referred to my notes from that panel many times throughout the application process and I was so glad that I had attended that session! The applications for Spring 2016 opened on August 25th. I applied for 6 different postings, but some of those postings included multiple positions within the application. As I learned from the panel, you are encouraged to apply for as many internships as you would like and are qualified for, but making sure they are all in the same fields is important to show focus within your interests.
The first step is a general application for each posting, asking for your basic information, education, work experience, and resume. It is important to make sure that your resume highlights your relevant experience and is tailored to the jobs you are applying for as according to the listed requirements! The second step is a phone screen. I received an email on August 28th to schedule my phone screen, which I had on September 3rd. The phone screen consists of general work ethic questions and covers all of the positions that you apply for. After that, it was a lot of waiting and patience! I did not hear anything until the end of October, when I was asked to schedule second interviews for 3 positions and received 2 dropdowns on my dashboard for positions that had multiple listings. On November 2nd, I received an email from my recruiter, asking me to schedule a time for a brief follow up call. During my call on November 3rd, I received my offer!

Overall, I really enjoyed the Professional Internship application process! I am lucky to have some wonderful friends that are currently or have previously done PI's themselves that answered my questions and supported me the whole time! I am so grateful for their help! And of course, I couldn't have made it through this without the support of my family. Every time that I would call or text them freaking out, they always encouraged me and knew exactly what to say! If anyone has any questions about the PI process, feel free to contact me and I would be happy to try and answer them and share more about my experience!

It still hasn't fully hit me yet that I will be doing a Professional Internship! I am so incredibly excited for this opportunity and cannot wait to see where it takes me. I'm counting the days until I am back at Disney!!!
